List of Alias Smith and Jones episodes

This is a list of episodes of the western comedy TV series Alias Smith and Jones.

Alias Smith and Jones originally aired in the United States on ABC. The series consisted of forty-eight 60 minute episodes and two 90 minute episodes. The first thirty-three episodes starred Pete Duel as Hannibal Heyes and Ben Murphy as Kid Curry. During the last seventeen episodes, Roger Davis played Hannibal Heyes.

Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry are successful bank and train robbers. Due to the influences of modern technology, they decide that they need to start over. During a train robbery, Curry is given a flyer discussing a new program that the governor is sponsoring. The premise is that wanted men will turn themselves in and, depending on their crimes, may be granted amnesty. Heyes and Curry seek out an old friend to reach out to the governor to see if they qualify for amnesty. In the meantime they end up in the same town as their old acquaintances, the Devil's Hole gang, and the local bank is in jeopardy. Guest stars include James Drury, Susan Saint James, Forrest Tucker, and Earl Holliman.

Heyes and the Kid meet two men at a carnival — one of them an old miner, the other a fast-drawing cowboy with a big smile (played by narrator Roger Davis). The miner likes the three of them and makes them an offer. If they come with him and work in his mine, they can share the gold between the four of them. When they decide that they've got enough gold, though, the smiling man disappears with the gold, the horses, and all the provisions. Now Heyes, the Kid and the miner must get back to civilization. But can they persuade the smiling man to return their share of the gold? And can the Kid out-draw him? Barbara Stuart guest-stars.

After being chased for weeks by a posse, Heyes and the Kid hide out on a ranch where a nice but poor family lives. They become idols of sorts for the family's two tomboy daughters, and quickly learn to like all of them. Then, when the posse finally shows up and demands that Heyes and the Kid come out, Heyes suggests that the family collect the bounty rather than the posse. The posse reluctantly gives them up, and the leader of the posse will not leave their side. On the way to the nearest sheriff's office, however, the party is attacked — by the daughters. Heyes and the Kid get away, but change their minds when they realize that the family could get in trouble for their sake. They return, but how can they stay out of jail if they have to give their identities away to the judge?

A group of men, among them Heyes and the Kid, witness an old man lose consciousness because of the weight of all the gold he was carrying. A doctor says to the man that he is dying. The man then produces a map showing his mining claim, which he wills to the group. The group travels to the place and starts to dig. Soon conflict arises, however, when Heyes' and the Kid's gold is stolen. Twice. Things get worse when the cabin is covered with snow, and they realize that they will have to stay there for the winter. Now a game of Montana Red Dog starts, with very high stakes. And neither Heyes nor the Kid can be sure of whom to trust...

The passengers of a coach are taken hostage at Diablo Station by four cowboys. Not discussing their ultimate goal, they keep Heyes and the Kid and the others tied up, just waiting. Soon the goal becomes very clear to Heyes. The leader wants to avenge his brother´s death — upon sheriff Lom Trevors. Can Heyes and the Kid, or any of the other passengers, warn Lom before he arrives?

Tired and weary, Heyes and the Kid discover that they are accused of burgling a bank. They decide to go there and investigate, since their amnesty is at stake. Also present is Blackjack Jenny, whose son Billy disappeared after telegraphing her about a job there. She is convinced that Billy and his friend Caleb are dead. Heyes and the Kid confront the bank manager, and manage to convince him that they are bounty hunters, and that they were on Heyes' and the Kid's track far away when the burglary took place. That way he gives them the name of the woman who said that it was Heyes and the Kid who stole the money. But is there someone else involved? Guest stars Jessica Walter and Ann Sothern

"Big Mac" MacCreedy Burl Ives tries to get the boys to steal the Roman bust from Armendariz Cesar Romero again, but this time the boys refuse. When Big Mac threatens to reveal their secret identities they agree to transport the bust to an auction after it has been stolen. While they wait for the bust to be delivered to the drop spot, Heyes and the Kid meet a bullying foreman, who makes the Kid do a little jig every time he finds the Kid still wearing his gun. Heyes can not understand why the Kid doesn´t comply for the sake of peace and quiet, but a former Preacher turned town drunk has an interesting idea: that the Kid is a saint who always turns the other cheek. Guest star Lee Majors.

The guys are framed for bank robbery by an embezzling banker, but they turn the tables on him by arranging for a second bank robbery to clear their names. Bronson Howitzer is a pseudonym for Ric Hardman.

When a bag of counterfeit money falls into the hands of Heyes and the Kid, they use it as collateral to get into the biggest poker game in the west. But just as Heyes get in, he runs into the Devil's Hole gang — and they nearly spoil his cover story. How long will it take until the sheriff puts two and two together, and grabs Heyes and the Kid? Then the banker takes a closer look at the counterfeit money, and decides he wants a piece of the action. But to get that kind of money, Heyes and the Kid would have to get the money from the robbery back. Can the Kid pull it off without Heyes' silver tongue? NOTE: This episode features the first appearance of Roger Davis in his Co-starring role as Hannibal Heyes/Joshua Smith in the series.

When Heyes loses his money to a crooked dealer, he threatens to expose the whole thing. But the owner of the casino calls the bluff, and Heyes and the Kid have to leave with their tails between their legs, until Heyes creates a revenge plan, involving their friend Georgette Sinclair Michele Lee, a false necklace and the selling of it to the casino owner. But instead of falling for this trick the casino owner manages to steal the real necklace. Now things get really tough for Heyes, the Kid and Georgette, as the casino owner sees through their every bluff. Heyes finds out it´s not so easy to out-con a con man, but there is a solution to every problem... Gregg Palmer guest stars.

A female casino owner runs a crooked game, and nearly kills Heyes and the Kid for trying to point that out. They wind up in the care of a man and his daughter. After hearing their story of how the casino owner destroyed the man's newspaper, and how he now dabbles in new techniques for printing, Heyes gets an idea of how to use the woman's greed to their advantage — by pretending to be able to print their own bills. But the woman turns out to be more careful than they thought, and it's not until they find a way to use that against her that they can finally end her reign. Ida Lupino and Buddy Ebsen guest star.

Heyes and the Kid track their friend Georgette Sinclair Michele Lee to borrow some money for a high-stakes poker game, but finds that "Georgie" has plans of her own. She intends to get the loot from a insurance fraud that will soon be statute-barred — a diamond, hidden somewhere in the hotel where the thief was captured. Also present are a professional bounty hunter who also wants the diamond, and the sheriff who caught the original thief. Who will find the diamond first: Georgie, the sheriff, the bounty hunter, or the diamond-seeking animal that Heyes brings?

While evading a posse, Heyes and the Kid meet up with Harry Briscoe, who's been fired from Bannerman Detectives; they help him and themselves by letting Harry "arrest" them before the posse does. Unfortunately, the sheriff insists on sending his deputy along with Harry and his "prisoners" to ensure that they actually get to Wyoming. This calls for some quick thinking... The ending of this episode, in which the two heroes are riding through the countryside and chatting, is reused in all the remaining episodes with only the audible dialogue being changed each time.

The boys are hired by a ranch owner as trappers, but when they meet his wife, she recognizes the Kid. The ranch owner and his wife try to act naturally, and send Heyes and the Kid out into the hills trapping. But they also send a professional hunter after them.

McCreedy is tired of years of feuding with the neighboring Armandariz family, whose land abuts his own and is occasionally shaped by the Rio Grande. So he hires Heyes and Curry to try to negotiate a settlement. They put on their game faces and have their hats in hand as they visit the Armendariz mansion, and get the expected rebuff. But there is a new player in the game: Armandariz's spinster sister, who is even less friendly than he but who has a deeply religious streak. Heyes and Curry play on that, telling her that McCreedy is a Catholic widower and piling on the soft soap (some of which is actually true). Carlotta, the sister, decides to investigate McCreedy herself. There may be a way out of the feud after all. Guest stars Burl Ives and Cesar Romero.

Intent on going back to Santa Marta, the boys turn back to Texas to pick up their friend Clementine. They soon find themselves in a house surrounded by men bent on taking them in. Among their other problems, the boys keep in mind the one photograph of them that Clementine has and sometimes uses to blackmail them into doing things for her. Guest star Sally Field.
43	5	"Bushwack!"	Jack Arnold	Roy Huggins and David Moessinger (teleplay), John Thomas James (story)	October 21, 1972
This is the first of five episodes to deal with the real-life Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA), which led to the Johnson County War of 1892 (and inspired the film Heaven's Gate, which changed many details of the story). A small cattle rancher, who has tangled with WSGA gunmen in the past, comes up behind two bushwhackers, surprises them and shoots them down in their tracks. He claims self-defense, but knows people will call it murder, so asks Smith and Jones to escort him, his wife, his partner and his cattle to Montana where he will be reasonably safe. WSGA "detectives" send out an armed party dedicated to killing the whole lot. When Heyes and the gunman are both critically wounded, Curry goes berserk and blasts away at them until they turn tail. Heyes survives, but the killer dies — and Curry figures out the truth. Now everyone has a moral dilemma.

An outlaw the boys rode with in Texas got into a little too much hot water, hightailed it north, changed his name and passed himself off as a lawman. As such, he became sheriff of Johnson County and chief enforcer for the WSGA. Canton is willing to tolerate Smith and Jones for a while as long as they don't call him by his real name — which they have an annoying habit of doing. Geoffrey Lewis and Eve McVeagh guest star.
45	7	"The Ten Days That Shook Kid Curry"	Edward M. Abroms	Gloryette Clark (teleplay), John Thomas James (story)	November 4, 1972
When the Kid travels alone and seems destined to be thrown in jail for not having enough money to pay for his drink, a mild-mannered female teacher rescues him. But as he tries to return the favor, the Kid is kidnapped. Soon Heyes comes to town, and puts together what happens to the Kid. But the teacher won't talk — not until Heyes uses his charms on her. Only then will he find out the real reason for the kidnapping.

After nearly three years of staying out of trouble, for the sake of the amnesty, it's finally time. But when Heyes and the Kid meet Sheriff Trevors, they find out that the governor has been removed from office. The new governor, however, seems nicer. He promises them amnesty, as soon as they do this one job for him. It seems that his daughter has fallen in love with an outlaw, and Heyes and the Kid must bring her back. The Kid takes it upon himself to charm the daughter, and thus make it easier for them to take her with them. But the Kid hadn't counted on her boyfriend's jealous nature and fast gun...
47	9	"The Strange Fate of Conrad Meyer Zulick"	Richard Bennett	Nicholas E. Baehr (teleplay), John Thomas James (story)	December 2, 1972
Sorrell Booke (best known for portraying Boss Hogg) has the title role, as a mining-company executive who went from Arizona to Old Mexico to try to settle miners' grievances over unpaid wages, only to be taken hostage in his own right by the miners, who hope to use him as a bargaining chip. A mine supervisor has a particular interest in getting Zulick back to Arizona, but won't explain why. It turns out that Zulick is a lot more valuable than anyone suspected, for reasons that are hidden until nearly the last minute. Another surprise comes when the mine detective turns Heyes and Curry over to the sheriff and then refuses the reward on them in Wyoming, allowing the sheriff to set them free, because he is convinced his debt of gratitude is too great.

Confusion reigns after Heyes and Curry stop to help a wounded man who calls himself McGuffin and asks them to deliver a package of perfect counterfeit $20 plates for him.

This episode again delves into Johnson County War territory, albeit less obviously than other episodes. Members of the WSGA have lynched two small ranchers they accused of rustling. Sheriff Trevors hires the boys to get the two surviving witnesses out of Wyoming and into Nebraska. The WSGA sends a sheriff after them with extradition warrants as material witnesses, and offers them a fat bribe if they promise to perjure themselves and say they didn't see the accused killers. The lynching was based on the 1889 hangings of Jim Averill and Ella "Cattle Kate" Watson, whom Michael Cimino would resurrect as the leads of Heaven's Gate.

The boys hire on to cut out horses, break them and get them to market before a Big Daddy rancher nearby can claim all the mavericks running the range as his own. In a role reversal of sorts for our heroes, Heyes strikes out miserably talking the talk and playing the cards with a beautiful brunette, while Curry finds a kinship with a very young, very beautiful blonde lady, who has an over protective older brother. They never get amnesty .....or a girl.
