The Australian Ambassador to Afghanistan is the Australian Government’s foremost diplomatic representative in Afghanistan.

Australia and Afghanistan re established diplomatic representation in 2002, after a long hiatus during conflict in Afghanistan.^[1] Between April 2002 and September 2006, Australia's High Commissioner to Pakistan was accredited as non-resident Ambassador to Afghanistan.^[2] The first resident Australian Ambassador to Kabul was appointed in 2006.^[1]

• In 1968, Lew Border was appointed Australia's first Ambassador to Afghanistan whilst resident High Commissioner in Pakistan.^[3]
• In 1970, Francis Hamilton Stuart was appointed Australian High Commissioner in Pakistan with concurrent appointment as Australian Ambassador to Afghanistan.^[4]
• In 1975, John Petherbridge was appointed non-resident Ambassador to Afghanistan.^[5]
