This is a list, in year order of the most notable films produced in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany and the socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany, DDR in German) from 1945 until the German Reunification in October 1990.
The East german DEFA produced between 1946 and 1992 ca 800 feature movies. Besides the DEFA were only the states broadcaster DFF and the university HFF two organizations, who produced feature movies for a cinematic release in a much smaler quantity. The DEFA also produced ca. 750 animated movies and more than 2.500 documentaries and short subject films.
