Table Notes
  • H1 = Home team first innings; H2 = Home team second innings; A1 = Away team first innings; A2 = Away team second innings.
  • In some reports only a result was given, no team scores: "Won" in the H1 or A1 column indicates the winner.
  • A decimal in the Day column indicates the match was played on both days: 24.25 means 24th and 25th.
  • A decimal in the Mth column indicates the match was played at the end of one month or the start of the next.
  • A decimal in a score column (A1, A2, H1 or H2) indicates an incomplete innings: 104.03 means 3 wickets for 104 runs.
  • Ourimbah was known as Blue Gum Flat and spelt Orimbah. The name used in the table matches the corresponding newspaper article.
  • An alternative spelling for Wamberal has an additional 'l'.

Notes

Prior to the existence of Trove, research for a cricket club history revealed that microfilm copies of the Gosford Times were in existence for single issues in 1892 and 1895 and multiple issues from July 1897 through to the end of 1899. It was therefore known that there was a Gosford Cricket Club in 1892, Kincumber Cricket Club in 1895 and Narara Cricket Club in 1898. An article in a 1920's issue of the Gosford Times reprinted, form a clipping, two matches from 1871, Blue Gum Flat (Ourimbah) versus Wamberal and a Brisbane Water district team against Wollombi. It was possible to find images of the original scorecards in the appropriate microfilm reel of the Sydney Mail.

The search capability of Trove permits a search for articles on matches. Trove articles are indexed by heading. The search can also find text that has been recognised. As the quality of the images is in some instances poor, the OCR is not perfect, and names of teams may be incorrect. It is therefore possible that further matches may be found with further searches of Trove.
