The Logistics Battalion(Logistikapataljon) is the Estonian Defence Forces logistics force, which has a supportive military formation role among the Estonian Ground Forces.

Role

The Logistics Battalion is the main unit of the Estonian Ground Force which provides the army transportation duties and fulfils various other logistical functions. The main functions of the battalion are to provide specialists training for the logistics units, to execute logistical tasks and military operations during the wartime, to prepare the reserve units and to provide military assistance to the units on the battlefield battle. In addition to these tasks the battalion also participates on the international military operations and for the logistical support units, preparing the elements, expulsion and ensuring sustainability for ensuring the preparedness of the Defence Forces Logistics Center.

History

The modern Logistics Battalion of Estonia considers itself to be a continuation of the Auto-Tank Regiment of the interwar era. The Auto-Tank Regiment, which brought together the Estonian Army's armored cars and light tanks, was established under the leadership of Albert Ojassoni, on 9 April 1919. In 1923 were formed military units around the car-tank division of the 1928. The task of modernize the military unit fell to Colonel Jan Lutsar, who was the commander to 1934. The regiment was located in Tallinn, but his subordinate units were at various times in Valga, Jõhvis, Narva, Tapa, and Elvas.[1]

On 17 July 1940, The Red Army occupied Estonia. On 1 October, the 1940 Auto-Tank Regiment was dissolved, and distributed engineering. Symbols and flags

The Logistics Battalion emblem is a winged fire bursting dragon on a violet shield, which is a symbol of strength and speed. It was once the Auto-Tank Regiment insignia. The symbol was re-adopted among the Defence Forces Automobile Company in 1996. The Defence Logistics Logistics Battalion badge issued by the Defence Forces was established on 13 March 1996. Badge was originally a sign of professional technical and teaching.

Today, it is given badges of outstanding and exemplary service in the Defence Logistics Logistics Battalion. As time wore badge up the name Department of Defence Forces General Headquarters of the Company, then called the badges today in its historic name: Company Car badge. Military staff who have served in the Defence Logistics Logistics Battalion at least two years may be awarded the right to carry the badge.
