Major achievements in gymnastics by nation
This is a list of achievements in major international gymnastics events according to gold, silver and bronze medal results obtained by athletes representing different nations. The objective is not to create a combined medal table; the focus is on listing the best positions achieved by athletes in major global events, ranking the countries according to the most number of podiums accomplished by athletes of these nations. All six disciplines currently recognized by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) are covered: 1) acrobatic gymnastics, 2) aerobic gymnastics, 3) men's artistic gymnastics, 4) women's artistic gymnastics, 5) women's rhythmic gymnastics, and 6) trampoline and tumbling.[1][2]
For the making of the list, results from five major meets were consulted, as follows: 1) the different editions of the World Gymnastics Championships, organized by FIG for each of the five Gymnastics disciplines; 2) the FIG World Cup Final, an event staged from 1975 to 2008; Olympic events organized by the International Olympic Committee in which Gymnastics competitions are contested, namely 3) the Olympic Games; and 4) the Youth Olympic Games; Events organized by the International World Games Association, namely 5) the World Games, in which Gymnastics disciplines that are not yet part of the Olympic Games programme are contested.[3][4][5]
The reason for these competitions to be chosen were: 1) they are open to athletes from nations across every continent, with no cultural, geographical, political or other sort of limitation preventing participation of gymnasts; 2) all of them make use of the most recent version of the FIG's Code of Points for each specific Gymnastics discipline; and 3) these are not invitational-only events (such as the American Cup or the Goodwill Games), therefore not imposing subjective limitations on which athletes are allowed to compete. Besides, the Olympic Games, the World Championships, the FIG World Cup, the World Games and the Youth Olympics are the only global competitions currently listed on individual profiles at the official FIG database, what indicates their high level of importance.[6][7][8][9][10]
The FIG database also lists results obtained at the Olympic Games Test Events, the European Championships and the European Games, the three of which have not been considered for this list because they are not open to all the best gymnasts around the world to perform in.[11] It is important to note, also, that this official database lists results obtained at the World Cup/Challenge Cup stages, which can sometimes reach the number of a dozen events each year; due to the enormous list of countries which have achieved at least one medal result at the World/Challenge Cup circuit, the primary table on this article focuses on results obtained at the FIG World Cup Final, as well as the meets that preceded it in history — the IFSA World Cup and the FIT World Cup. Lists of medal-winning nations at the World/Challenge Cup stages since 1975 are provided for each discipline, in alphabetical order, after the main list of results on this article.

- The conventions used on this table are AC for Acrobatic Gymnastics, AE for Aerobic Gymnastics, MA for Men's Artistic Gymnastics, WA for Women's Artistic Gymnastics, RG for Rhythmic Gymnastics, TT for Trampoline and Tumbling.
- The table is pre-sorted by total number of medal results. In case of a tie, countries are then compared according to most number of gold medal results, silver medal results and bronze medal results, respectively. Persisting a tie, equal ranks are given, with countries being listed in alphabetical order.

FIG World Cup series
What follows are lists of nations which have earned at least one medal at one of the stages of the FIG World Cup circuit, divided by discipline.[12][13][14][15] Also included are results from the Challenge Cup series (Artistic Gymnastics) and World Series (Aerobic Gymnastics).[16][17][18][19] Results comprise both A and B categories, when applicable,[20][21][22][23] and medals earned at the IFSA and FIT World Cups were also taken into account when creating the following lists.[24] Finally, only senior events were considered for the making of the lists.
