Manalurpet is a panchayat town in Thirukoilur taluk of Villupuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Manalurpet is 25 km from Tiruvannamalai, 15 km from Tirukoilur. The Thenpennai river, runs through Manalurpet. It passes through Sathanur Dam near Thiruvannamalai and ends in the Bay of Bengal near Cuddalore.
Demographics
As of the 2001 India census,[1] the population of Manalurpet (Tamil: மணலூர்ப்பேட்டை) is 7,401. Males make up 51% of the population and females 49%. The average literacy rate is 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 68% and female literacy is 50%. 12% of the Manalurpet population is under 6 years of age.
Festivals
Manalurpet annually celebrates the River Festival on 18 January, the second day from kanum pongal (Fifth day of Tamil month Thai[5th]). During the festival, Lord Annamalaiyar comes from Tiruvannamalai.
Temples
The Lord Agastheeswara Temple, Lord Perumal Temple, Lord Sani Bhagavan Temple and 33-foot Anjaneyar Temple are located there. A famous Lord Vishnu Tempe is situated 4 km away at Aathi Thiruvarangam.
Market
Every Saturday, people from villages around Manalurpet conduct "sandhai" to purchase vegetables and fruits at low cost. Manalurpet is famous for Parched rice (Pori([pattani] in Tamil).
