Masatoshi Takeichi (竹市 雅俊 Takeichi Masatoshi, born November 27, 1943) is a Japanese cell biologist, who servef as director of the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology (CDB) in Kobe, Japan until 2014. He is known for his identification of the cadherin class of adhesion molecules.[1]

Biography

Takeichi was born in Aichi prefecture, Japan and graduated in 1966 from the Faculty of Science, Nagoya University.[2] He received his Ph.D. from Kyoto University in 1973.[3] He was a member of the faculty of Kyoto University between 1970 and 2000, before being appointed as director of the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in 2000.[2] He is a member of the Japan Academy and the United States National Academy of Sciences.
