Michael G. Connelly is a Republican member of the Illinois Senate, representing the 21st district. Connelly has served in the Illinois House of Representatives before becoming a senator.

Connelly served as a Lisle village trustee from 2001 to 2006. From 2007, he served as a member of the DuPage County Board, representing the 5th district.[1] In 2008, he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives, and he was elected to the Illinois Senate in 2012. Senator Connelly ran unopposed in the 21st district making him become senator with 100% of the vote.

State Senator Michael Connelly is currently serving his first term in the Illinois Senate after serving two terms in the Illinois House of Representatives. The 21st District includes all or part of the communities of Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Lisle, Naperville, Warrenville, West Chicago, Winfield and Wheaton in DuPage and Will counties. For his support of private sector business, Senator Connelly received the Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Business and the Champion of Free Enterprise Award from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. Senator Connelly was born in Chicago and raised in LaGrange. He graduated from Loyola University in 1986 and the John Marshall Law School in 1989. Senator Connelly previously served as an assistant State's Attorney in Cook County and as a law clerk to Justice Allan Stouder of the Illinois Appellate Court. He has been in the private practice of law for over 20 years. Michael Connelly and his wife, Lisa, have been married 25 years and have three children.

In the beginning of senator Connelly's term of office, he already had experience from being in the Illinois house of representative for 2 terms (4 years). In 2014, Connelly had to run for reelection. Yet, the senator ran unopposed winning 100% of the vote. Senator Connelly will now serve a 4-year term in the Illinois senate. Senator Connelly serves on the following committees, Committee of the Whole; Commerce and Economic Development; Criminal Law (Minority Spokesperson); Judiciary; Labor; Licensed Activities and Pensions; Committee on Restorative Justice (Co-Chairperson).
