Municipal elections were held in fourteen municipalities of Montenegro on 23 May 2010.
An opposition coalition called "A Better Montenegro" (encompassing the Socialist People's Party of Montenegro, New Serb Democracy, the Movement for Changes and almost all other, minor opposition parties) was formed for these elections.[1]
The governing coalition, consisting of the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro (DPS CG) and its smaller partner, the Social Democratic Party of Montenegro (SDP CG), is not standing jointly in all municipalities:
- In Podgorica, DPS CG runs in a coalition with the Bosniak Party and the Liberal Party of Montenegro, both minor parties; SPD CG runs alone.
- In Ulcinj, DPS CG runs in a coalition with the Democratic Union of Albanians and Party of Democratic Prosperity; SDP CG runs alone.
- In Andrijevica, Kolašin and Rožaje, DPS CG runs alone, as does SDP CG.
- In Bar, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Danilovgrad, Pljevlja, Šavnik and Žabljak, DPS CG and SDP CG run in a coalition.
The results saw the ruling DPS CG stay in power in most municipalities. It holds an absolute majority in Bar, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Danilovgrad, Rožaje, Šavnik and Žabljak, will form coalitions with SDP CG in Andrijevica, Podgorica and Ulcinj, and with smaller parties in Kolašin. The opposition won only in Pljevlja.[2]
