Naren Weiss is an actor, playwright, and model. He is best known for his portrayal of Osama bin Laden in Kamal Haasan's film on terrorism, Vishwaroopam.

Early life

Naren Weiss attended Madras Christian College and Brooklyn College.[1] He was a video jockey on Channel UFX, having been discovered by Paloma Rao.

Career

Acting

Naren Weiss started with The Little Theatre. He worked with others and got recognition from the Indian media for his performances, being called "an unsung hero" (Ultimate Aberration), "enchantingly scraggly and gloriously flamboyant" (The Hindu), and "annoying perfection" (The New Indian Express).[2][3]

In 2014, he performed in the United States.[4] For his work in "Over Here" (in New York City), he received widespread praise from critics.[5][6][7]

He was also in the movies Good Night Good Morning, and Vishwaroopam.

Writing

Weiss began writing in Chennai, in 2010. In 2012, he adapted independent musician Sidd Coutto's (of Zero) blog work as a play called The Horizon. The New Indian Express called it "a poetic account of the failing spirit of the Indie music industry."[8]

In 2013, he wrote Maya from Madurai and co-wrote Bollywood Kee-Maa for performances at the prestigious Metroplus Theatre Festival and Singapore.[9] In 2014, he wrote The Abridged History of Modern Day India.

Modelling

He has most notably appeared in fashion campaigns for Bank of India and Sprite, and was on the cover of India Today magazine several times.[10]

Personal life

Weiss is a polyglot; he speaks several languages including English, Tamil, Kodava, Spanish and Urdu.[11]
