Ofir Meir Marciano (or Martziano, Hebrew: אופיר מרציאנו; born 7 October 1989 in Ashdod, Israel)[1] is an Israeli footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Scottish Championship club Hibernian, on loan from Israeli club Ashdod.[2] He has also played 10 times for the Israel national team.

Career

Club career

Marciano signed for F.C. Ashdod in 2008, and has made over 120 league appearances for the Israeli club. On 7 July 2015, he signed a season-long loan deal with Belgian club Royal Excel Mouscron.[3] In August 2016, he signed for Hibs on loan for the 2016–17 season,[4] although red tape held up his eligibility to play for the club.[5] Marciano admitted that he was sold on the move thanks to fellow Israeli Nir Bitton, who plays for Celtic.[6]

On 26 August, following a three-week delay, it was announced that Marciano had obtained his work permit after passing an English test to obtain a visa and was finally able to play for Hibs.[7] He made his debut for the club in a 4–0 win against Greenock Morton at Easter Road in the Scottish Championship.[8]

International career

He made his international debut on 10 October 2014, as Israel won 2–1 against Cyprus in UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying.[9] Marciano was recalled to the Israel squad in November 2016,[10] but had to withdraw after suffering a knee injury in training.[11]
