Plebejus idas, the Idas blue or northern blue,[1] is a butterfly of the Lycaenidae family. It is found in the northern regions of the Palearctic and the Nearctic realms.[2]
The species flies from June to August depending on location.
Wingspan: 17 to 28 mm.[1]
The larvae feed on Calluna and Fabaceae species.
Subspecies
Lycaeides argyrognomon lotis (syn. Lycaeides idas lotis, formerly Plebejus argyrognomon[3]) is a critically endangered butterfly endemic to Mendocino County, California,[4] with sightings in Sonoma and Marin counties. It has been listed as an endangered species since June 1, 1976,[3] but has not been sighted in the wild since 1994.
