Poovathur is a village in the Orathanadu taluk of Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, India.

Demographics

As per the 2001 census, Poovathur West had a total population of 2086, with 987 males and 1099 females. The sex ratio was 1113. The literacy rate was 75.89. since from beginning school has achieved 100% result in state board examination and produced excellent students in 2016 and school first keezhanatham arunkumar s/o c.ganesan was scord 457 marks in tamil medium and the school is so popular by Head Master Mr.GUNASEKARAN and assist HM chellamani within the surrounding 12 villages.

Poovathur also contributed to nation for freedom struggle through Mr. Rengasamy (INA).he was one of the prime members of INA. He is one of the strongest generals under Mr. Netahji and fought against the British army during the Second World War.
