President Panchatcharam is a 1959 Tamil language comedy-drama film directed by A. Bhimsingh and produced by A. L. Srinivasan.[1] The film was written by B. S. Ramaiah. Music by G. Ramanathan assets to the film. It stars S. S. Rajendran, B. Sarojadevi and S. V. Sahasranamam played major role. The film was adapted from Russian stage play The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol.[2][3][4]
Plot
A district Board President(S. V. Sahasranamam)[5] has a lovely daughter(B. Sarojadevi)[6] studying in Madras. He and his wife have in their minds different young man as prospective husband's for her. But the young women falls in love with her friend Sikamani(S. S. Rajendran).[7] The two aspiring bridegrooms come to the small town to fix the marriage. At that time, the president receives investigate his fraudulent affairs! The daughter's lover who leaves home arrives to meet her and he is mistaken for the official the fun starts and after many complications, true love triumphs.[2]

Reception
Randor Guy stated The Government Inspector Russian literature Nikolai Gogol stage play has been adapted in many languages. In 1948 The Inspector General played lead with Danny Kaye and the noted film maker as Henry Koster. In 1950 as Afsar played lead with Dev Anand and directed by Chetan Anand. In 1959, as President Panchatcharam lead with S. V. Sahasranamam[8] and directed by A. Bhimsingh and Laterly, in 1965, as Namaste.[1][2]
Soundtrack
Music composed by G. Ramanathan and lyrics were written by Subramania Bharathi, Kannadasan and Ku. Ma. Balasubramaniam. Playback singers are M. L. Vasanthakumari, Radha Jayalakshmi Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi, T. M. Soundararajan, P. B. Srinivas, Seerkazhi Govindarajan, K. Jamuna Rani and P. Suseela.
There was also a dance sequence by Sayee - Subbulakshmi,[9] who were active at that time. There was also a musical play in the film based on V. O. Chidambaram Pillai.[1]
