Qari Waheed Zafar Qasmi

Waheed Zafar Qasmi is a Qāri'[1] (one who can recite Quran with proper rules of tajwid) and an internationally famed naat khawan from Pakistan.[2][3][4] He can recite na`at in Urdu and Arabic.

Background

Qari Waheed Zafar Qasmi started reciting Qur'an at the age of 6 or 7. By the age of 9, he memorized the Qur'an. As a qari, he took part in many Qiraat competitions all over the world. In Qur'an reciting, he won his first competition in 1969 in Malaysia for Pakistan and thereafter in Libya in 1979. In 1980, he won a competition of Tilawat-e-Quran-e-Majeed in Saudi Arabia. Qari Waheed Zafar Qasmi again in 1981 won a competition in Syria.[5] He joined Radio Pakistan in the 1970s, and the first program that he contributed to was “Sar Chashma-e- Hidayat”. After that he did many programs on television as well on radio. In 1972, Qari Waheed Zafar Qasmi recited his first Naat, which is (Allah Hu Allah Hu). Some of his other popular Naats are 'Fasloon Ko Takaluf hai hum say agar', 'Zahe Muqaddar', 'Khuda Ka Zikr Karein' and 'Qaseeda-Burda Shareef'. He also performed and served as a judge in Qirat and Naat competitions. Qari Waheed Zafar Qasmi has represented Pakistan in many International Competitions over the years. He has trained many well-known artists in this field. His contribution in the field of Qiraat and Naat led him to win pride of performance award.[6]
