Richard D. Beckman is a British media and entertainment executive.[1][2][3][4]

Personal life

Richard D. Beckman was born in London, England, and received a bachelor′s degree from the The University of Manchester, England, in 1981.

Charity Boards

He has served on the boards of Laureus Foundation and Comedy Hall of Fame. He also has been involved in fundraising for City of Hope, March of Dimes, Keep a Child Alive[5] and the American Cancer Society.

Career

Early career

Richard Beckman was an Account Executive at the International Thomson Organization in the United Kingdom in 1981 to 1982. He then became Sales Development Executive at Thames Television, a British ITV television network serving London and the surrounding area.

He moved to New York, where Richard was Field Sales Executive for Reuben H. Donnelly, a provider of Yellow Pages in United States.

Condé Nast

From 1986-2010, Richard Beckman served in various executive positions at Condé Nast over a 24-year career including Chief Executive Officer of Fairchild Fashion Media,[6] President of the Condé Nast Media Group[7][8] and the Chief Marketing Officer of Condé Nast. Additionally during his tenure, he was the Publisher of Condé Nast Traveler,[9] Gentleman's Quarterly[10] and Vogue. He created GQ's Men of The Year,[11] The Vogue/VH1 Fashion Awards[12] and the Emmy Award-winning Movies Rock which ran on NBC, VH1, and CBS respectively.

New Yorker Magazine

From 1986-1992, Beckman was Advertising Manager/European Advertising Manager at the New Yorker,[13] where he supervised sales team of 18 sellers.

Condé Nast Traveler

In 1992, Richard Beckman was promoted to Publisher,[14] where he was involved in the launch of concierge.com. He also launched the Hot List, the Environmental Awards and expanded The Reader's Choice Awards. Condé Nast Traveler was named to Adweek's "Hot List" in 1996.

Gentleman's Quarterly Magazine

In 1996, he was promoted to manage GQ,[15][16] where he was Magazine Publisher of the year in 1997,[17] and the magazine was named to Adweek's "Hot List" in 1998. Beckman created and produced GQ's Men of the Year, now active in 20 countries and developed the brand platform, "What makes a Man a Gentleman."[18]

Vogue Magazine

Richard Beckman became president of the Condé Nast flagship brand, Vogue Magazine in 1998. During his time there, he launched Teen Vogue[19] and Men's Vogue[20] as pilots, as well as co-produced and created the Vogue/VH1 Fashion Awards in 2000-2001. He also developed the award winning platform "Before it's in Fashion it's in Vogue."[21] In 2001, he was again awarded Publisher of the Year. Also in 2001, Richard Beckman along with Rod Stewart won the City of Hope award.[22] Vogue Magazine was named to Adweek's "Hot List" in 1999.

Conde Nast Media Group

From 2002 to 2009, Richard Beckman oversaw the developing of brand strategies across 27 print and 15 digital assets at Condé Nast Media Group.[23][24][25] He developed the Branded Entertainment[26] unit that executed multiple network television shows including Fashion Rocks[27][28] on CBS (2004-2008) and Emmy Award winning Movies Rock[29] on CBS (2007).

Conde Nast Publications/Fairchild Fashion Group

For the next year (2009 to 2010), he was CEO of the Fairchild Fashion Group,[30][31][32] made up of several Business to Business media assets that were acquired from Capital Cities/Disney for $630mm[33] and included 7 business units: WWD, Footwear News, W Magazine, Beauty Biz, Fairchild Trade Shows, Summits and Fairchild Books. There he launched a Web Insight Business, Footwear Platform (Trade Show)[34] and Men's Week.

Prometheus Global Media

In 2010, Beckman was the founding Chief Executive Officer of Prometheus Global Media.[35][36] There he re-platformed The Hollywood Reporter from a daily print publication to a platform agnostic, media asset covering the entertainment industry, re-positioned the Billboard brand, growing Billboard.com into a consumer web-site, and resurrected The Billboard Music Awards in May 2011/2012,[37][38][39] after a 5 years hiatus. He executive produced the show live on the ABC television network which was shown in 120 countries.

Also at Prometheus Global Media, he lead the consolidation of Adweek, Mediaweek and Brandweek and expanded the Clio awards[40] by bringing the show back to network television (NBC) after a 10-year hiatus.

Three Lions Entertainment

Richard Beckman was Chief Executive Officer and founder of the branded entertainment company Three Lions Entertainment,[41][42] launched by Richard Beckman, Joel Katz, Chairman of Entertainment for Greenberg Traurig, and billionaire Ron Burkle in 2013. He engineered the return of Fashion Rocks,[43][44] a multi-platform music and fashion special on CBS,[45] with content partnerships across AOL, Cumulus Radio and InStyle Magazine. The show garnered over 4.5 billion press impressions and trended on Facebook and Twitter. The show was hosted by Ryan Seacrest and featured performances from artists including Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Pitbull, Duran Duran, KISS and Enrique Inglesias.[46] It was broadcast live September 9 from the Barclay Center,[47] Brooklyn airing in over 100 countries globally. Beckman also created the revival of the television specials Movies Rock and Sports Rock.

VICE Media

At VICE Media, Richard served as Chief Revenue Officer where he oversaw all advertising, sponsorship and brand relationships across all VICE channels, including the launch of VICELAND TV Channel in February, 2016.[48]
