The Roar of the Dragon Tour was a brief concert tour of Japan by American hard rock band Aerosmith.
Background
The Roar of the Dragon Tour lasted from 1999–2000, and included a New Year/Millennium show in Osaka on December 31, 1999, parts of which were recorded and later broadcast on ABC television directed by Dick Carruthers as part of special programming about Millennium celebrations across the world.[1]
Despite being only six dates, the tour had its own unique theme, incorporating dragons and other important elements of East Asian culture. Before the concert started and in between songs, a dragon would roar on the projection screen. There was also a coinciding stage setup as well.[2]
As Aerosmith had still been riding on the success of Nine Lives and the "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" single from 1997 and 1998, the tour was a rousing success. In addition, Aerosmith had also only performed one leg of dates in Japan on the prior Nine Lives Tour, whereas they visited North America and Europe on several legs, so this tour was, in essence, the band making up for only performing one leg of dates in Japan on the Nine Lives Tour.
