Roop Mallik

Roop Mallik is an Indian biophysicist who works on nanoscale molecular motor proteins that transport material such as virus, mitochondria, endosomes etc. inside living cells. These motors generate forces of the order of pico-Newtons.^[1]

Early Life and Career

He was born in 1970 in the city of Allahabad in northern India. He completed his post graduation from the Physics department of Allahabad University. He later joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai for doctoral research in Condensed Matter Physics.^[2]^[3] He moved to problems in Experimental Biology after completing a PhD in Physics. He received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award in Biology Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards-2014.^[4]^[5]^[6]
