Sanandaj pronunciation (Persian: سنندج At the 2011 census, its population was 311.000 [1] Sanandaj is the capital of Kordestan province at Iran. Sanandaj is the twenty-third largest city in Iran. Sanandaj was founded about 400 years ago.[2] [3]
Society
The population of Sanandaj is mainly Kurdish. The city also had an Armenian minority who gradually immigrated from the city. Until the Iranian Revolution (1979), the city had a small Aramaic-speaking Jewish community of about 4,000 people.[4] The city boasted a sizable Assyrian community that spoke a unique dialect of Aramaic called Senaya.
The economy of Sanandaj is based upon the production of carpets, processed hides and skins, milled rice, refined sugar, woodworking, cotton weaving, metalware and cutlery. [5] [6]
Climate
Köppen-Geiger climate classification system classifies Sanandaj’s climate as continental Mediterranean (Dsa). Average maxima and minima in Sanandaj range from −8.2 to 35.1 °C (17.2 to 95.2 °F). Monthly precipitation has varied from nothing to 270.0 millimetres or 10.63 inches. The average seasonal temperature in Sanandaj is 15.20 °C or 59.36 °F in spring, 25.20 °C or 77.36 °F in summer, 10.40 °C or 50.72 °F in autumn and 1.60 °C or 34.88 °F in winter. In a study, the maximum absolute temperature was found to be 44 °C or 111.2 °F, the minimum absolute −31 °C or −23.8 °F, and the average annual temperature 13.10 °C or 55.6 °F. The average relative humidity was 69% at 06:30 hours and 38% at 12:30 hours.
