Sarcosperma paniculatum is a tree in the Sapotaceae family. It grows up to 40 metres (130 ft) tall with a trunk diameter of up to 70 centimetres (30 in). The flowers are yellow to greenish-white. The fruits are ovoid to round, ripening red and purplish-black, up to 2 cm (1 in) in diameter. The specific epithet paniculatum is from the Latin meaning "loosely branched", referring to the flowers. Habitat is secondary forests to open areas from 130 metres (400 ft) to 1,300 metres (4,300 ft) altitude.[2] S. paniculatum is found in Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sulawesi, the Lesser Sunda Islands and the Philippines.[3]
