David Garrard (property developer)

Sir David Eardley Garrard (born 1939) is a retired British property developer, who was knighted in the 2003 New Year Honours for his charity work with organizations such as the NSPCC. He founded Minerva PLC, a property investment and development company, whose shares are quoted in the London Stock Exchange FTSE 250 Index, and served as its chairman for many years until his retirement in March 2005.

Sir David was listed by the Sunday Times Rich List 2005 as the joint 451st richest person in the UK, with a fortune in excess of £100 million.

Before the 2005 General Election he provided the Labour Party with a loan of £2.3 million on commercial terms, to be repaid on 28 April 2007.[1] He was nominated for a peerage in 2005 but asked for his name to be withdrawn.

Garrard has also sponsored the Bexley Business Academy.

Garrard's son-in-law, Robert Soning, took on the leasehold of the London house owned by David Miliband in 2014 and was featured in newspaper stories in 2016 as having alienated his neighbours by reason of the holding of "wild and raucous parties".[2] Soning is also a wealthy property developer, his main company being called Londonnewcastle.[3]
