The Solomon Pond Mall is operated by Simon Property Group, which owns 49.1% of it, and is located off Interstate 290, near its terminus at Interstate 495, in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

It was one of a slew of malls to sprout along the I-495 corridor from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. When it was constructed in 1996, the mall's location seemed remote, and it was located far from other retail. It is located about 30 miles west of Boston in the outskirts of both the town of Berlin [1] and the city of Marlborough,[2] Despite its apparent isolation, the mall was able to strategically target both the affluent and booming western crescent of suburbs of Boston, while simultaneously serving as the largest mall for the Worcester area (located about 12 miles to the southwest).[3]

The 900,000-square-foot (84,000 m2) shopping area attempted to shoot for the upscale, by courting some higher end tenants (Victoria's Secret, Brookstone, Swarovski Crystal and several jeweler chains). Although, the anchor tenant roster is relatively average: JCPenney, Sears, Macy's (which was a former Filene's), and Regal Cinemas.[4] The mall has two levels to it, not including the "basement level" (which once housed Thunder Sports). The mall also includes a big carousel for children located in the food court.
