Sona Nair is a film actress working mainly in Malayalam films. She is also known for her roles in TV soaps.[2]

Personal life

She is born to Sudhakaran (s/o of Kesavan Contractor) and Vasundara on 26 June 1975 at Thiruvananthapuram. Her father was working in Muscat and mother was a school teacher. She had her primary education from Al-Uthuman Higher Secondary School, Kazhakoottam, Trivandrum where her mother was a teacher. She pursued degree from Govt. College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram.[3]

She is married to Malayalam movie cameraman Udayan Ambadi on 1996.[4]

Career

Thooval Kottaram was her first movie in Malayalam. In this movie, she played a character named Hema. After this, she appeared in films such as Kadhanayakan, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, Arayannangalude Veedu, Manassinakkare, Passenger and more.[5]

Sona also acted in Priyadarshan's Bollywood comedy film Malamaal Weekly in 2006. She also acted in two Malayalam anthology films, Naalu Pennungal and Kerala Cafe (in the segment "Makal").

Other works

She has acted in many Malayalam television serials, telefilms, albums, advertisements etc. She is an anchor also. She has judged many reality shows. She has participated in many stage shows, game shows too.

Awards, nominations

In 2004, Sona has received the Best Actress Award in the "Kaveri Film Critics Television Awards" for her role in a telefilm Rachiyamma, telecasted on Doordarshan.[6] She has been chosen as the Best Female Actor in television category of Sathyan Memorial Awards, 2008. In 2006, she won the Best Supporting Actress award in both Kerala State TV Awards and telefilms category of Sathyan Memorial Awards, for her role in Amrita TV's Samasya.[7][8] She has also won Best Character actress at Asianet Television awards 2008 & 2011.

Sona was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in 57th Filmfare Awards (South) for her role in the Malayalam movie Passenger. In 2011, she won the Asianet Television Award for "Best Female Actress in a Character Role".
