Sonia Escolano is a Valencian film director, born in Alicante in December 1980. She moved to Alcalá de Henares in 1996 to study literature. In 2005 she joined the director of short films Sadrac González for the project "Mr. Long-neck", which won second prize at the Alcine film festival.[1] In 2006 she directed "Juliets".

In the literary field, she has won many awards for poetry and essays. She taught theater to children for several years. She successfully handled child actors in the short film "Cedric", which participated in festivals around the globe,[2] and in the controversial "The Rapture of Ganymede."

In 2009 she directed, with Sadrac González, the film Myna Has Gone,[3] which tells the story of an illegal immigrant and her problems in Spain. This film won the Best Film in the Indie Fest film festival in Los Angeles,[4] and participated in many international festivals, including the Austin Film Festival.[5] The film was also an official section at Athensfest, Les Reencontres des Cinémas d'Europe, and The Bronx, in New York City.[6] The film was released in theaters in the United States, including in Minneapolis,[7] Los Angeles,[8] St. Louis,[9] Phoenix,[10] Houston,[11] San Francisco,[12] Dallas,[13] Seattle,[14] Miami,[15] Denver,[16] New York,[17] and Palm Beach.[18]

In 2009 she shot the fake trailer "Second Blood", filmed in Japan for Spanish players,[19] and the short film "Invisible Old People", which received an official selection at the Vancouver Film Festival.[20]

Sonia is the director of the theater group "Rotos y Descosidos", where she teaches acting to new opera singers, specializing in performances of Federico Garcia Lorca.[21]

In March 2015 she published her first fiction novel titled El Rey Lombriz (The King Worm) and based on a screenplay.[22]
