Steve Doyle (born May 21, 1958) is a lawyer and Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, first elected to represent the 94th district in 2011. He was reelected in 2012. He represents suburban La Crosse County including Onalaska, Holmen, West Salem and Shelby.
Background and personal life
Born in La Crosse, Doyle graduated from Aquinas High School in 1976. Doyle then graduated from University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in 1980 and received his law degree from University of Wisconsin Law School in 1986. He practices law in La Crosse,[1] and teaches at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.[2]
As of April 2011, he had been married to Gloria for 23 years, and they had two daughters, Katelyn and Stephanie.[3]
Elective office
In 1984, Doyle ran for the 94th Wisconsin State Assembly district (portions of La Crosse and Monroe Counties) to succeed fellow Democrat Virgil Roberts (who had represented what had been the 35th Assembly District[4] before redistricting). He won the primary election with a plurality, but lost in the general election, with 10,190 to 10,959 for Republican Sylvester G. Clements.[5]
He was first elected to the La Crosse County, Wisconsin Board of Supervisors in 1986 and has been its chair since 2002. On May 3, 2011, Doyle was elected to the Assembly from a 94th District somewhat redistricted since his 1984 run, to succeed Republican Michael Huebsch, who had taken a cabinet position in Governor Walker's administration.[6]
In 2014, Republican elementary school teacher Tracie Happel announced she would run against Doyle on the November 4th ballot.
