Steven Russell "Steve" Moses (born December 10, 1992) is an audio engineer and sound designer. He is best known for winning the seventeenth edition of the American reality television series Big Brother. Moses is currently a MFA graduate assistant in Sound Design at the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music.[2]
Early life
Moses was born in New Hartford, New York and grew up in Gouverneur, New York. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University for two years before transferring to Fredonia State College to pursue a degree in audio engineering and music.[3] He was enrolled at Fredonia during his appearance on Big Brother.
Big Brother
Steve entered the house on the second episode, hoping to convince his fellow houseguests that he was the "sweet, naive, and innocent little kid who could never possibly be a threat to your game and would be a complete waste of your HoH."[4] He was an early target and nominated for eviction the first two weeks, forcing him to win early competitions for safety.
He attempted to alleviate his target by joining three alliances: "The Rockstars" with John McGuire, "Students of Sound" with Vanessa Rousso, and the "Freaks & Geeks" / "Scamper Squad" with Vanessa, Austin Matelson, Liz Nolan, and Julia Nolan. He hid his true loyalties from other houseguests via a prolonged fake feud with Austin. These alliances gave him several weeks of safety where he threw many competitions.
Steve unintentionally became HoH for the first time during the season's first double eviction episode. He targeted Jackie Ibarra, who he saw as the strongest member of the opposing alliance. With pawn Meg Maley by her side, Jackie was ultimately evicted.
Steve did not win HoH again until final six, where all remaining houseguests were members of the Rockstars or Scamper Squad. He disbanded the latter by targeting Austin and Liz for eviction. Austin won Power of Veto, removed himself from the block, leaving Steve to nominate Julia. Julia was evicted by a 3-0 vote, concluding Steve's second reign as HoH.
Steve again became HoH for the third time on Day 89, nominating John and Vanessa. Although Steve's real target was Vanessa, Vanessa won the final Power of Veto and removed herself from the block. She was the sole vote to evict John on Day 91.
On finale night, Steve won his fourth and final HoH and took Liz to the final two, evicting Vanessa. He was crowned the winner of Big Brother 17 by a vote of 6–3 against Liz, receiving votes from jury members Shelli Poole, Jackie, Becky Burgess, Meg, James Huling, and John.
While competing on Big Brother, Moses received much support from his hometown[5] and university.[6]
Current Life
He graduated in May 2016 summa cum laude with a B.S. in Sound Recording Technology.[7] Upon graduating, he immediately began his graduate education in Cincinnati. He is working to become a Disney Imagineer.[8]
He is a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.[9]
