Sybian

A Sybian (/ˈsɪbiən/), or Sybian saddle, is a masturbation device primarily designed for use by women. It consists of a saddle-like seat containing an electric motor, gearbox speed reducer, and mechanism connected to a rod that protrudes from a hole in the top center.[1] Various attachments can be added to the rod, which vibrates, rotates and may also stimulate the clitoris externally. The intensity of the movements produced can be increased or decreased through a control box attached to the Sybian's base.

Development

According to its inventor Dave Lampert, the Sybian was first conceived in the 1970s but it was not until 1983 that he began to develop the idea further. A prototype was built in 1985 from sheet metal mounted on a wooden frame with a vibrator projecting through an opening inside the housing; a second prototype became the basis for current production models.[2]

Lampert and his team initially called the device Master Better, shortened to "MB" for about four years before selecting a new name for it. The prefix syb was derived from Sybaris, an Ancient Greek city in southern Italy which was associated with luxurious living.[2] It is currently manufactured by Abco Research Associates in Monticello, IL.

The success of the Sybian in helping many women achieve orgasm more easily than through traditional intercourse with a man is believed to be due to the absence of the vigorous thrusting motion usually associated with coitus, which provides the proper stimulation for a man to achieve orgasm, but is generally not the stimulation required for most women to achieve orgasm.

From his research and experience, Lampert came to realize that the woman-superior position during intercourse works best for female orgasm and that stimulation is enhanced when the penis remains fully inserted and the woman rocks her pelvis forward and backward, making contact with the sensitive G-spot, located on the front wall of the vagina, anterior to the location of the exterior clitoris.

With this in mind, Lampert designed the Sybian to help women become proficient in the woman-superior (Girl-On-Top) position. For many women, the external vibrations along the clitoris produced by the Sybian while in the woman-superior position are enough to easily stimulate clitoral orgasms. In addition, the optional penetrating attachments gently rotate to stimulate the vaginal walls and G-spot at variable speeds while also vibrating to help a woman learn how to have multiple, G-spot orgasms. Women are also instructed to rock their pelvis forward and back while using the Sybian with a penetration attachment to enhance stimulation of the G-spot along the front wall of the vagina.

Once a woman has developed her G-spot sensitivity in this way, she often requires minimal stimulation of the G-spot to become multiple orgasmic. Thus, the Sybian functions not only as a masturbation device, but as a training device to prepare the woman for greater pleasure during intercourse in the woman-superior position with a man of any penis size.

The Sybian has a weight of 22 pounds (10.0 kilograms), and measures 13.25 in (33.7 cm) wide, 12.5 in (31.8 cm) long, and 8.5 in (21.6 cm) tall excluding the 2 in (5.1 cm) rubber attachment with an 8 feet (2.4 m) power cord. The unit is designed to work with or without a penetration attachment. When in operation, the Sybian distributes powerful vibrations externally along the user's entire pelvic floor, including clitoris, vulva and anus. The optional penetration attachments rotate using a 20:1 ratio gearmotor providing .034 hp (25 W) that can vary from 0 to 120 rpm and vibration is produced using a .059 hp (44 W) electric motor that may be controlled from 0 to 6500 rpm. Both power and vibration/rotation are controlled through a remote control. The Sybian is able to hold over 1,000 lb (450 kg) of weight. It has a padded cover made out of naugahyde and the casing has built in finger grips for carrying.[3]

Generally, the user of the Sybian straddles the machine and inserts the attachment vaginally. The vibration and rotation can be controlled by separate on/off switches and two rotary controls. The Sybian is sold with up to eleven washable attachments of varying sizes made from synthetic rubber in various shapes including a finger, specially designed G-spot stimulator and various sizes of phallus and the addition of two premium silicone parts in 2015 with additional silicone parts being developed and released in the subsequent years. Publicity

The Sybian was featured in Penthouse magazine once it was released in 1987.[5]

Although the Sybian has been featured in many pornographic video productions since the early 2000s, primarily on the Internet, the device came to prominence on The Howard Stern Show since the show's arrival on Sirius Satellite Radio.[6] Howard Stern was given a Sybian as a birthday gift in 2006 and it remains in the studio for use by willing guests.
