The Technological Institute of Textile and Sciences (TIT&S), founded in 1943, offers engineering programs and postgraduate programs. It is one of the oldest colleges in India. The Technical College established in 1943 was initially affiliated to the Department of Industrial Training, Punjab for 3-year Diploma course in Spinning Technology and Weaving Technology. TITS remained a part of the Birla Education Trust up to 31 March 1985. From 1 April 1985 it was separated from the Trust and an independent Society known as "The Technological Institute of Textiles" was formed to manage it which was registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act 1961. To reflect the expanded instructional facilities and new courses the Society was rechristened as "The Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences".
The institute provides lectures by in-house and visiting faculty, expert lectures, discussions, seminars, project assignments and visits to industries and project sites. The Institute is attached to a Textile Factory for training the students under actual mill conditions and working environment. Students undergo extensive practical and theoretical training sessions. They can handle the mechanical and administrative issues confidently and independently. The mill management can rest assured for the responsibilities entrusted to theses trained technocrats. That is why TITS technologists are readily accepted by the textile industry.[1]
History
Founded in 1943, the Technological Institute of Textile and Sciences is a center for research and education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The visionary Padma Vibhushan Dr. Ghanshyam Das Birla established the institute in 1943 under the auspices of the Birla Education Trust.
Its administration vests in the TITS College Managing Committee which is constituted according to the constitution prescribed by the All India Council for Technical Education. The institute has attached to it a textile mill for training the students under working conditions and for conducting research. This association of a textile mill with an institute in textile technology is unique in India and not frequent even in the Western world. This institute is among those few institutes (the others being the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institute of Technology) in India that offer degrees in technology (B. Tech. with Honours) at the undergraduate level as opposed to the B.E. (Bachelor in Engineering).

Admissions
Admission to the four-year B.Tech course is made on the basis of merit of JEE main exam conducted by CBSE with an intake of 400 students. M.Tech. courses have an intake of 66 students. and M.B.A.courses have an intake of 40 students. Admission to the two-year MBA degree course is made on the basis of merit of CMAT scores conducted by AICTE. Admission will be made through 'On-Line Off Campus' counseling under the authority of Haryana State Counseling Board, Directorate of Technical Education, Haryana Chandigarh, for which TITS Bhiwani is one of the participating institutes.
Campus
The total land area available with the TIT&S Society governing the Institute is 112 acres out of which an area of 1,09,694 Sqm., is exclusively at the disposal of the Institute which includes the Institute’s main building with a spacious auditorium in the centre, laboratories, boys and girls hostels, staff quarters, playground etc. The college has three libraries (Textile library, M.B.A. library and Central library) with large variety of books in them.
Location
The institute is located in Birla Colony, opposite Bhiwani railway station. Bhiwani town in Haryana has just over half a million people and lies on the broad gauge railway line connecting Rewari, Bhatinda, Hisar, Jaipur, Rohtak, Delhi and Chandigarh. It is connected by direct bus service to Delhi and all major towns of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Hostels
There are four hostels for boys and one hostel for girls, having a total of 500 single-seated rooms with a dining hall and a cafeteria. A fully vegetarian hostel mess is run by the students.
Hostel has an alumni home for pass-out students, VIP guest house and guest house facility for guests and parents of students. The hostel has sports facilities for students, with indoor and outdoor games such as cricket, hockey, volleyball, basketball, football, and lawn tennis, indoors have badminton, table tennis, carom and chess.

Academic and Social clubs
Social Society There are two NSS units in the college that work to understand and identify the needs&problems of the community. NSS student volunteers, during their special camping, utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to community.During NSS camping students acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude. NSS provide a real platform to practice national integration and social harmony.
Technical Society There are several technical societies in the college that work to improve the technical skills of the students. They conduct seminars, workshops, quiz and many other activities which help students to develop a technical aptitude. Major technical societies of the college are TIT&S Computer Society, Voyagers, Maverick and Electronika.
Dramatics Society The society headed by Dramatic Secretaries organizes all the cultural events that take place in the college such as Freshers Day, Farewell, Alumni Meet and Teacher's Day.
Recreational Society The society circulates newspapers, magazines and other reading matter; and screens movies and educational documentaries.
Orators' This society has been constituted with the intention to improve the communication skills of the students keeping in mind the importance communication skills have in today's world. Various activities are organized from time to time such as Extempore, Group Discussions, Debates and Declamations.
Students Council The council is responsible for the management of student activities and related affairs. At the top there are Chief Prefect, Chief Captain, Social Secretary, then Heads of all the societies and the game Captains.
Editorial Board The Editorial Board headed by Editor-in-Chief brings out the campus newsletter and the annual college magazine 'Kriti' and also organizes events which help students in exploring their creative side.
e-Learning The institute started its e-Learning Portal to bridge the Gap of Teacher and Students Interaction. By using the latest learning tools like Web meeting, Quiz, Assignments all things are now online and widely helpful for non-TIT&S students also.
Placements
Institute has 100% campus placements in Textiles and around 85% in all other branches from its inception. Prominent textile companies visit campus each year and recruit students for various roles. Various companies in textile field like Vardhman, Arvind mills, Ashima mills, Voltas, Huntsman international, Trident Ltd., JCT, Dystar, Must garments, Nahar Fabrics, OCL, Raymonds to name a few visit every year. From other field companies are like Tech Mahindra, TCS, HCL, Infosys, Honeywell, Birlasoft, Quark, Oracle Financial to name a few.
TIT&S School
The residential colonies around the Institute and the factory brought in their wake the problem of educating the children of the residents. To meet this social obligation the TITS Society is running a Senior Secondary School for the children of its employees, which initially started as a Primary School in the 4-room humble building presently housing the Birla Colony Post Office. In 1952 the School was shifted to its present building which is provided with well equipped laboratories and well stocked Library. From the initial enrollment of about 200 in 1946 the strength of the School has skyrocketed to over 2400. It is the only school of its kind where education is free from Nursery to Senior Secondary class. Further, free books are provided to the Children of all employees. The concept of 'Neighborhood Schools' which the national planners are now advocating has actually been in operation here since 1946. Good scholars from the city also seek admission to TIT School on account of excellent instructional facilities obtaining here.
