The Afterimage is a Canadian-based progressive metal band from Barrie, Ontario currently signed to Tragic Hero Records. The band formed together in 2012 with members from previous local Ontario bands such as Centuries Apart and The Prologue.[1] The band has since then released their first EP Formless, a number of singles, and their label debut Lumière (EP). They have been known to use elements of mathcore, progressive rock, metalcore, and post-hardcore in their work.

History

Formation and Formless EP

The band released their debut single titled "Void" on May 24, 2012 from their first EP Formless which was released in North America through Famined Records on August 14, 2012 and Ghost Music in the UK. The reception for this EP was received very well as it showcases the band's creativity and talent in four short but sweet tracks blending melody and brutality together for a powerhouse debut.[2]

Following the release of Formless, the band hit the road in the summer of 2012 touring Eastern Canada with Ascariasis and Stormwalker from August 14–22. It was on this tour that the band met Ascariasis guitarist Michael Leo Valeri who would eventually join the band the following year. The band was able to land a slot at KOI Fest in Kitchener, Ontario on September 15, 2012. From October 20- November 5 the band would embark on another Canadian tour this time with Three Crowns. Following their first tours and EP release the band put out a few singles in 2013 through Famined Records including "Pathogen", "Unseen" and "The Seeking". It would lead to a number of guitar and drum play through videos and had several fans upload covers of their songs to YouTube. The band toured across Canada in 2013 with Beheading of a King and Take the Earth Beneath Us from February 21- March 16.

In 2014 the band signed with Royal Division Entertainment which represents bands such as Unearth, Texas In July and ERRA. They released their latest single on April 13, 2014 titled "O N Y X". The new single was released as a guitar playthrough and featured Eric Almeida of AURAS.

Signing to Tragic Hero Records and Lumière

After some down time and immense writing the band announced that they would be releasing their new 8 track EP titled Lumière (EP) on August 28, 2015 through Tragic Hero Records.[3] This would land them on a roster with bands such as Invent, Animate, A Skylit Drive, and He Is Legend. The band would have a new song from Lumière titled "Reach" featured on Guitar World with a play through video of the song.[4] From September 4–20, the band would hit the road for a fall tour with ERRA, Polyphia, and Invent, Animate.[5] This would be the band's first appearance in the U.S and their first tour under Tragic Hero Records. The new EP was engineered by Valeriote at Sundown Studios and Nick Sampson at Metro 37 Studios and mixed and mastered by Kris Crummett at Interlace Audio.[6]
