Thulasi Maadam (English: Thulasi plant or Basil plant) is a 1963 Tamil Romance - Drama film was directed by K. B. Srinivasan under banner M. A. V. Pictures. The film's script was written by Thamizhmaaran.[1][2] Music by K. V. Mahadevan assets to the film. It stars A. V. M. Rajan, Gemini Chandraknatha (played dual role) and V. Gopalakrishnan played lead with S. N. Lakshmi, Sharadha M. S. Sundari Bai and Master Gopal played pivotal role.[3][4]
Plot
The story of two look -alike(Chandrakantha), who are not twins separated at birth. In a small town lives a retired collector with an attractive daughter Marry(Chandrakantha) and another middle-class family with a daughter Janaki(again Chandrakantha). Marry is affianced to an Army Officer Thomas(V. Gopalakrishnan), while Janaki marries a company executive Officer(A. V. M. Rajan), who works in the City. Janaki gives birth to a child. Since Janaki is found to have Tuberculosis, her mother-in-law(S. N. Lakshmi) separates the Child and the Mother. Soon, Janaki loses her mother(Seethalakshmi) too and becomes an Orphan. However, the mother-in-law adopted son Peter(Master Gopal) is fond of both the newborn and it abandoned mother, and wants to see them together. Around then, he changes upon Thomas and marry during motor cycle accident. Struck by the resembles between Marry and Janaki the smart boy hits up clever plan. Which includes women activist marry swapping places with Janaki. Expectedly several complications ensue, leading tense situations. Finally everything is solved, much to the delight of the two couples.[1]

Receptions
Randor Guy stated the article The film did not fared well at the Box - Office. Chandrkantha in a difficult double role gave a fine performance with Ranjan and Gopalakrishnan providing her good support. Sharadha), played minor role as the women, who is tried to be married to Rajan as the Second wife. But the plan does not work out.[1]
