Tim Stevenson (Lord Lieutenant)

Timothy Edwin Paul 'Tim' Stevenson, OBE (born 14 May 1948) is the current Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire. A qualified barrister, he is also a businessman and current Chairman of Johnson Matthey plc.

Early life

Stevenson was born on 14 May 1948, the son of Derek Paul Stevenson. He was educated at Canford School, an independent school in near Wimborne Minster, Dorset. He went on to study law at Worcester College, University of Oxford. He graduated Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Jurisprudence, which was later promoted to Master of Arts (MA).[1] In 1971, he was called to the Bar and became a member of the Inner Temple. This qualified him as a barrister.[2]

Career

Stevenson practised law for a short time following his qualification as a barrister, before beginning a 25-year career in industry.[3]

Between 1993 and 1998, he was Chief Executive of Castrol International and Chief Executive of Burmah Castrol PLC from 1998 to 2000.[4] He has taken on a number of non-executive director positions: between 1997 and 2004, of the Department for Education and Skills;[1] between 2000 and 2004, of Partnerships UK; and of Tribal Group from 2004 to 2008.[5] He became Chairman of Morgan Crucible in December 2006.[5] In March 2011 he joined Johnson Matthey as Chairman Designate. His appointment as Chairman was confirmed in July 2011.[6]

Personal life

Stevenson is married to Marion who is director of the Oxfordshire Family Mediation Service. Together they have three daughters.[7]

On 1 September 2008, he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of and in the County of Oxfordshire, there by becoming Queen Elizabeth II's personal representative in the county.[8]

Honours

In the 2004 Queen's Birthday Honours, Stevenson was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) 'For services to Education'.[9] In May 2010, he was appointed Commander of the Order of St. John (CStJ).[10]
