The Uzhavan Express ( உழவன் விரைவு ரயில் ) is a train route of the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and runs between Chennai Egmore and Thanjavur Jn.[1] The express was introduced on 1 September 2013. It operates daily and covers a distance of 351 km.[2] The main towns on the way are Papanasam, Kumbakonam, Aduthurai, Kuttalam, Mayiladuthurai, Vaithisvaran Koil, Sirkali, Chidambaram, Cuddalore Port Junction, Panruti, Villupuram, Tindivanam, Melmaruvathur, Chengalpattu, Tambaram, and Mambalam. The train has 18 coaches of which 17 coaches, of these 648 are second class sleeper berths, 66 are second AC berths, 64 berths 3rd AC, 10 first AC berths and 440 unreserved seats and it has a total passenger capacity of 1,288.[3] It has been named Uzhavan Express signifying the importance of the Cauvery delta and its farmers.
