Oghuz (Azerbaijani: Oğuz, Оғуз اوغوز) is a city and municipality in, and the capital of, the Oghuz Rayon of Azerbaijan Republic. Oghuz was known as Vartashen until 1991 and was renamed to Oghuz in 1991.
Etymology
Oghuz, also known till 1991 as Vartashen, got its name from the abundance of roses that naturally grow in this place. Vartashen means the city of roses.[2]
