Vikaspuri is a residential colony in Delhi, India. It comes under the Patel Nagar subzone of West Delhi.[1] Vikaspuri has the pincode 110018. It is divided into nine major blocks — A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J and M. It also has a nearby highly upper class colony named Shankar Garden. H Block is divided into sub-blocks H-I, H-II and H-III. Mahinder Yadav of Aam Aadmi Party is the MLA of Vikaspuri.[2]

Two DDA apartment blocks (opposite JG-2 block), named Vikaspuri Extension pocket-A and pocket-B are across the Outer Ring Road, on either side of Manohar Nagar Gurudwara.

History

Vikaspuri is a planned urban area started by the Delhi Development Authority in the 1980s, it boomed in population in the late 1990s.

Entertainment

Vikaspuri is known for its suburban residential living, AEZ Square, which houses PVR Vikaspuri, a multiplex. There are restaurants in the complex including McDonald's and Domino's. There are many smaller markets that are connected to each block of the larger town. Vikaspuri is approximately 3 km from the Westend Mall in neighbouring Janakpuri which adds to the shopping and eating experience. Shop at Delhi Haat at the District Centre, Janakpuri for handicrafts made by local artisans. It has a 24x7 convenience store.

The Janak Puri Club is in the adjoining town of Vikaspuri. The club includes sports like swimming and gym and organizes parties.

Overall a very lively town, though there is a lack of a good library. It is one of the highly connected townships of Delhi.

The rapid urbanisation of Delhi has led to mushrooming of such societies all over the city — noted societies are now coming out at Rohini and Dwarka.

There's a mall coming up on Virjanand Marg (near D-Block) being built by the Reliance group of industries. Buses like 883, 825A, 410A, 816A, 588A, and 805A arrive at the Virjanand Marg Bus Stop.

Connectivity

Metro

Delhi Metro's Blue Line (Dwarka Sector-21-Vaishali/Noida City Center) Janakpuri (West) and Uttam Nagar (East) stations are approximately at equal distance from Vikaspuri. Rickshaws, Gramin Sewa or operated rickshaw go from these Metro stations to Vikaspuri. The Blue Line connects Vikaspuri to Connaught Place, Pragati Maidan, Anand Vihar ISBT and Vaishali. The line is being extended to the airport via Dwarka.

Vikaspuri will benefit from the Delhi Metro's Phase III which will be completed by March 2016.[3] The Janakpuri (West) - Noida Botanical garden line will connect commuters to major places like IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, IGI Domestic Airport, Nehru Place and others.
