The United States Virgin Islands planned to send one competitor to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy; however, the competitor injured her wrist during a crash in practice and was unable to compete.

Anne Abernathy , known as Grandma Luge in luge circles, was forced out of the women's singles competition due to a broken wrist suffered in a practice crash. Abernathy was the oldest female athlete at these games.
