WWFD (820 AM) is a radio station in the Washington, D.C. region, licensed to Frederick, Maryland. The station simulcasts a freeform music format known as "The Gamut", which originates on the HD3 subchannels of WTOP and its full-power rebroadcasters (WTLP and WWWT). WWFD also carries Washington Capitals and Washington Nationals sports programming and some weekend specialty programming of Federal News Radio network flagship station 1500 WFED.^[1]

Sunday evening syndicated programming on The Gamut includes American Standards By The Sea, Anything Anything with Rich Russo and Little Steven's Underground Garage.

History

WWFD simulcast the main signal of WTOP from December 18th, 2000 to June 27th, 2007, Washington Post Radio and its successor Talk Radio 3WT in 2007 and 2008, and Federal News Radio from 2008 to 2013. Prior to 2001, the station ran a country format.

WWFD was the first analog home of The Gamut, beginning its simulcast on March 20, 2013. The Gamut later added a translator on 104.3 (W282BA) in Leesburg, Virginia that was previously used to repeat the main signal of WTOP-FM. This translator was given a power boost, moved to 104.5 (prompting a callsign change to W283CD) and relocated to Sterling in 2015. In February 2016, independently-owned translator W252DC signed on from Great Falls, Virginia on 98.3.

Construction permits have been issued to move both translators to Bethesda, Maryland for metro-wide coverage, at which point W283CD would begin repeating WBQH under the FCC's AM revitalization program. ^[2]^[3]

WWFD has applied to move FM translator W255AQ from Lock Haven, PA to Frederick to carry WWFD's programming on the FM band.
