WTHU is a Talk formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Thurmont, Maryland, serving Frederick and Frederick County, Maryland. WTHU is owned and operated by Christian Radio Coalition, Inc.
History
WTHU started when founder Vic Leisner couldn't get Orioles games at his home in Thurmont. On June 12, 1967, WTHU was founded and began carrying Orioles games as well as an Adult Contemporary (would now be "Oldies") format.
WTHU also holds a unique historical distinction, it was the last 100 watt full time station to be licensed by the FCC.
On February 15, 2008, Radio and TV website DCRTV.com reported that Walmer had sold WTHU to the Christian Radio Coalition for $150,000.
On June 9, 2008 the Christian Radio Coalition, Inc. a group of local Frederick County residents began operation of WTHU. The radio station is operated by a 10 member Board of Directors, 3 staff and an alliance of at least 12 local churches from various denominations, cultures, races and beliefs.
On January 4, 2010, WTHU began simulcasting on Brunswick, Maryland based station WTRI, also dropping their Contemporary Christian format for Religious Talk.
In September 2010, WTRI fell silent as part of an ownership transfer and the WTHU simulcast was removed.
In March 2011, the Frederick Keys announced that they signed an agreement with 1450AM The Source (WTHU) making them their flagship radio station.
The Addy & Gabe Show started at WTHU in April 2013, featuring Adalid (Addy) Claure and Gabriel (Gabe) DiGennaro, both based in Frederick, Maryland. On September 9th, 2013 the show moved to Monday afternoon drive, and aired every Monday and Tuesday until April 2014.
The Source today features mostly news, talk and sports programming with religious programming overnights and weekends.
