Xagar District is an administrative district in southern Somalia. It is one of five districts that make up the Jubbada Hoose region, also called the Lower Jubba region.
Overview
Xagar is located near the districts of Afmadow and Bu'aale. The Jubba River is situated about 90 km from the district.
Demographics
Xagar is primarily inhabited by people from the Somali ethnic group, with the Bartire Darod sub-clan especially well represented.
The Bartire clan was led by Ali Base until his death during the Somali Peace Conference held in Djibouti in the early 2000s. The current chief is Suldan Ibrahim Suldan Adam Gedi.
Economy
In terms of subsistence patterns, the town's inhabitants are mainly sedentary agro-pastoralists, supplementing their cattle herding with plant cultivation. Domesticated animals include camels, cows and goats.
