Ambah is a city and a municipality in Morena district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.
Geography
Ambah is located at 26°43′N 78°14′E / 26.71°N 78.23°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 161 metres (528 feet). This area is located near the Chambal Ghat. River Chambal flows very near to Ambah and forms the border between M.P. & U.P. and M.P. & Rajasthan. It is famous for its ancient fort and Kakanmath temple.
Ambah is a well-developed town in Morena District. Ambah Autonomous PG college of Ambah is very famous in Chambal Region for its Geography Department and Education Standards. The nearest railway station is Morena (33 km from Ambah) which is on the way to Delhi.
Ambah lies on State Highway no. 2 of Madhya Pradesh. It is approximately at the midpoint of Bhind and Morena, two major district centers of Madhya Pradesh.
Mr. Satyapraksh shakhwar (SC) of Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) is the present MLA from Ambah-Porsa Constituency.[2]
It is also famous for 'Banjara Kua' which has been built overnight. The dominant castes of Ambah are Tomar Thakurs(Kshatriyas) and Brahmins. It was formerly known as AMBRISH NAGARI. The famous temple of Lord Shiva named Kakanmath is in Ambah block (it has archeological importance). This temple was made by Chandela kings.
Demographics
As of 2011 India census Ambah has a population of 258689. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%.[3] Ambah has an average literacy rate of 64%, lower than the national average of 73%; with 72% of the males and 54% of females literate. Ambah is also known for being the birthplace of Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil who was a very famous freedom fighter. Schools and colleges
Ambah, though a rural town, focuses very high on education (contrary to 2011 census data which says Ambah's literacy rate is lower than National rate). In fact Ambah celebrates a very high educational position among other towns of the Morena district. The small town has several primary, secondary and higher secondary schools.

Ambah Post Graduate College
Ambah Post Graduate College was established in 1959 AD as the First Academic Institution of Higher Learning in the town. It was given the autonomous status in 1989 by the University Grants Commission and is approved by the State Government and the Jiwaji University, Gwalior in recognition of its performance and its potential. Smt Indira Gandhi, the then President of Congress Party and the Ex-Prime Minister of India laid its foundation stone. Since its establishment, the College has played a vital role in providing the quality education and the educationally qualified citizen in the town and the adjacent villages.
A low Literacy rate is deceiving in terms of education standards maintained in Ambah.A large no of people of Ambah are working Abroad and many have Migrated to major metropolitan cities.The Awareness of people about the education diversities astonishes many people. Girl's Education is not restrained and Even Pg College,Ambah Has 80% Girl student that gives us the idea of women empowerment prevailing in such a small town.

Ambah is a rural town. the main business in market is basic household stuffs selling. People from Nearby villages come to Ambah to buy groceries for their daily needs. Apart from Kirana stores in Ambah it has numerous Medical Stores, Garment Shops, Provisional Stores. Many Automobile agencies are also present in Ambah.
Religious status
Ambah is primarily a Hindu-dominant town. Jainism is prominent enough, along with Islam. Other religions are almost non-existent.
There are hundreds of places of religious importance (mostly Hindu temples and a couple of mosques) in and around Ambah. Mahatma Lochandas Mandir, Jayeshwar Mahadev Mandir (temple), ManshaPoorn Hanumaan Mandir, Heeron wali mata (Goddess of Diamonds) and Badi Masjid (big mosque) are a few to name. There are five Jain temples in Ambah. Ambah is part of Tanwarghar and Tomar Rajputs Shakhwar Community (SC) dominates the region, having significant population of Brahmins and Gurjars also. The only mode of transport to Ambah is by road. The closest railway station is Morena which is around 33 km from Ambah. There are very frequent public transport (mostly private buses/UVs) available between Ambah and Morena. The most prominent city close to Ambah is Gwalior (68 km). Ambah has a distance of around 300 km from New Delhi and the famous city Agra is 120 km.Means of transport are improving day by day.An open window reservation office has been opened in ambah so that reservations for trains can be made.

Ambah Civil Hospital is a large hospital in Morena district. Many patients from nearby region and villages come to ambah hospital daily for health issues. Routine camps and vaccine camps are organized throughout the year Ambah hospital. Night facility is also available in hospital. Several diseases are treated free of cost in hospital. There are several private hospitals in Ambah. But they are costlier. Patients are always advised to check up in civil hospital. There are various medical stores located near the civil hospital Ambah. Every year an Eye Operation Camp is also organized by Red Cross with the help of local NGO.
Fairs and activities
During February–March every year, an animal fair is organized by the local municipality. The fair starts about five weeks prior to Holi (the festival of colors) and ends in two weeks. As this fair ends, starts a fun fair for human beings. This fair is known as Jayeshwar Mahadev Mela (in the name of an ancient Lord Shiva temple). The fair usually starts around three weeks before Holi and ends on the previous evening of the festival. Apart from usual trading and amusement facilities, municipality arranges for a special event in the evening. The trend so far has been that the last night of fair gets an orchestra. The orchestra plays through the entire night, till very early morning. This evening is considered to be as one of the biggest public gatherings in the town. As of 2015 the annual fair conducted was Visited by Kumar Vishwas,Notable Hindi Poet.The fair is a convergence of all the rural cultures prevailing villages and Towns around Ambah.The major plays and Drama Skits are Conducted in Regional Language and moreover by regional artist.
Markets
Nagar Palika complex is the main market near Civil Hospital. Sadar Bazar is another good market in Ambah. People from nearby regions and villages come to Ambah daily for shopping.
