Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (or APSRTC) is the state-owned road transport corporation in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Its headquarters are located at RTC House in Pandit Nehru bus station of Vijayawada.[2]

History

APSRTC was formed on 11 January 1958 as per Road Transport Corporations Act 1950. Earlier, it was a part of Nizam State Rail and Road Transport Department.[3]

Administration

The organisation is divided into four zones with twelve Regional Managers. It has a total of 11,154 scheduled buses operating in 44.15 lakh kilometers and has a total of 426 bus stations and 126 bus depots.[3]

Types of services

APSRTC operates various kinds of services such as, "Vennela", "Amaravathi" "Garuda Plus", "Garuda" and "Indra".[4]

Performance and earnings

As of February 2016, the organisation has a gross earnings of 30.50 (45¢ US) per km., with a loss of -4,650.8 million (US$−69 million).[3]

Awards and achievements

It entered Guinness Book of World Records on 31 October 1999, with 22,000 buses making it the largest bus fleet in the world.[5][6]

Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has a number of firsts to its credit in India.[3]
