Aroona is a suburb of the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia.[2] It is located within the Caloundra urban centre 4 kilometres (2 mi) north-west of Caloundra. It is situated between Little Mountain and Currimundi. At the 2011 Australian Census the suburb recorded a population of 3,062.[1]
History
Aroona is an aboriginal word usually meaning "place of refreshing" or "place of running water".[2]
Demographics
In the 2011 census, Aroona recorded a population of 3,062 people, 52.7% female and 47.3% male.[1] The median age of the Aroona population was 42 years, 5 years above the national median of 37. 81.1% of people living in Aroona were born in Australia. The other top responses for country of birth were England 5.7%, New Zealand 4.5%, Germany 0.7%, Scotland 0.6%, Netherlands 0.6%. 95.9% of people spoke only English at home; the next most common languages were 0.6% German, 0.3% Dutch, 0.2% Macedonian, 0.2% Italian, 0.2% Spanish.[1]
