Bombs Away is an Australian sibling DJ, vocal and production duo, composed of Sketch (born Matthew Ronald John Coleman) and Tommy Shades (born Thomas Edward Hart Coleman). Born on the Gold Coast, Australia, before relocating to Perth early in their adult lives, where Bombs Away was formed in late 2009.

In 2010 the duo began to tour nationally with their first single "Big Booty Bitches" and various remixes. They later toured internationally before relocating to the Gold Coast in late 2011, where they produced two further singles, "Super Soaker" and "Party Bass", which were both certified Platinum by ARIA, with "Big Booty Bitches" also certified Gold.^[1][2]

In May 2013 Bombs Away included a tour DJ in all performances and since the addition of a tour DJ, DJ Kronic (born Luke Calleja), Dixie (born Daniel Kumurdian) and KOMES (born Ryan Higginbottom) have all performed the role at various stages, with Dixie being most recent, until Dan Absent took up the role of tour DJ with Bombs Away.

Bombs Away also has a live performance configuration^[3] in which Tommy Shades performs lead vocals, Sketch plays guitar as well as vocals and they are joined on stage by their drummer, Matt McGuire.

Music

Bombs Away's first single release "Big Booty Bitches" reached number 3 on the Beatport Electro Top 100.^[4] It also received in excess of 2 million views on YouTube,^[5] and was certified Gold in 2013.^[1] Their follow-up single "Swagger" was released in early 2011 to coincide with the release of Central Station Records'^[6] compilation Wild Nights 2011.^[7] The track received national airplay on the Nova Network^[8] and Austereo Radio Network.^[9]

Bombs Away's third single "Super Soaker" was one of the ARIA Charts Top 50 Dance Singles of 2012^[10] and top 50 overall Australian singles in 2011.^[11] It was completed and added to all of their performances from March 2011, but the final version was not released until September 2011. Upon its release, it became the highest-ranked dance song from an Australian artist on the ARIA Dance Chart in only its second week of release. The track was certified Gold in March 2012, and Platinum in late 2012.^[2][12] In March 2012, they released a collaboration with DJ Kronic, titled "Looking for Some Girls", which reached number 7 on the ARIA Club Chart.

Bombs Away's fifth single, "Get Stoopid", a collaboration with Seany B (the performer of the TV Rock single "Flaunt It"), was released in late 2012, and reached number 1 on the ARIA Club Chart^[13] and was ranked number 27 in the Top 50 Club Tracks of 2012 on the ARIA Charts.^[14] The majority of the film clip for "Get Stoopid" was filmed on the streets of Surfers Paradise, and featured cameo appearances from "The Twins" (Ellie Kelaart and Brooke Kelaart) and DJ Kronic.

The sixth single from Bombs Away, "Party Bass", released in 2012, was certified Gold within five weeks of its release, and Platinum two weeks after.^[2] It also reached number 1 on the Independent Music Chart^[15] and the top 3 of the iTunes Dance Chart.^[16] It was also the fourth-highest selling Australian dance single of 2012 (26th overall)^[10] and 27th overall Australian single in 2012 on the ARIA Charts.^[17]

"Drunk Arcade" was released in March 2013 and debuted at number 15 on the ARIA Dance Singles Chart.^[18] The duo's original release "Assassinate", released in July 2013, reached number 4 on the Beatport Electro Release chart on 1 August.^[19]

Life in Color Festival 2012 Life in Color Festival 2013 Bombs Away performed mainstage on the national Stereosonic^[30] tour along with hosting "The Ultimate Stereosonic Afterparty" for the Brisbane leg of the tour, which was held at Brisbane’s Electric Playground Nightclub. The afterparty saw guest performances by international artists Afrojack (reference) and Redfoo from LMFAO (Reference), as well as promoted performances by Bombs Away, Dainjazone, and DJ Kronic

On New Year's Day 2012, Bombs Away headlined the Ministry of Sound^[31] NYD Party held at The Eatons Hill Hotel in Brisbane alongside Havana Brown, Tommy Trash, the Stafford Brothers, Timmy Trumpet and a number of other national and international touring DJ acts.

Bombs Away performed on the 2012 Creamfields Australia tour, with sets on the mainstage for each leg of the festival's Australian tour.^[32]

Management

Bombs Away are represented for touring in Australia by Soapbox Artists,^[33] a subsidiary of Ministry of Sound Australia.^[31] Soapbox Artists also handle all incoming enquiries for performances in all other parts of the world.
