Kenyan–Brazilian relations are bilateral relations between Kenya and Brazil.
History
In July 2010, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva President of Brazil made a state visit to Kenya. He and President Mwai Kibaki witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperation agreements. Including an agreement in bio-fuel technology, agriculture, manufacturing, energy, ICT, exploration of natural resources and housing. [1]
The agreements also entailed cooperation in energy, trade and investment promotion, and on cooperation between Foreign Service Institutes of Kenya and Brazil.[1]
Lula da Silva was also highlighted the importance of partnering with Kenya to access the East African Community (EAC) economic bloc.[1]
Development cooperation
In April, 2014 both countries signed a loan agreement for the mechanisation of Agriculture in Kenya. In the deal Brazil will advance a loan of US$80 million. The deal was signed by Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture of Kenya, Koskei and Mauro Borges Lemos, Minister for Development, Industry & Foreign Trade.[2]
Trade
Kenya exported goods worth Kes.74.4 million (US$878,530) in 2010 and Kes.110.2 million (US$1.3 million) to Brazil in 2012. Kenya imported goods worth Kes.10.2 billion (US$121.3 million) in 2010 and Kes.24.5 billion (US$289.2 million) in 2012.[3]
Brazil's main exports to Kenya were aircraft, domestic and industrial appliances, heavy machinery for mining and construction, agricultural equipment and tractors, motor vehicles sugar and aluminium wire.[3]
Kenya is Africa's largest buyer of Embraer jets.[3]
Diplomatic missions
The embassy of Kenya in Brazil is also accredited to Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela. It is located in Lago Sul, Brasilia. Brazil's embassy in Nairobi is accredited to Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda. Brazil also has a mission to UNEP and UN-Habitat in Nairobi. The embassy is located in Gigiri, Nairobi.
