History

General Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GPL) is incorporated as Private Limited Company on the 5th day of April, 1984. Dr. Momenul Haq, Managing Director, Dr. Gazi Nurun Nabi, was Director. They were friends and classmates since their boyhood. M/S. General Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GPL) stepped into manufacturing of drugs during 1987 with initial 7 products and minimum manpower. Now there are nearly 3000 dedicated employees in GPL inclusive of around 2000 Sales & Marketing Force. The distribution network is spread all over Bangladesh with a team of 600 distributions workers.

(GPL) are producing many categories of medicine like Antihistamines, Antiulcerants, Gastroprokinetics, Laxatives, Bronchodilators, Decongestants, Antiemetics, Antibiotics, Anxiolytics, Antidepressants, Antidiabetics, NSAIDs, Vitamins & Supplements, Antiseptics, Antieczematous, Antifungals, Cardiovasculars, Antiepileptics, Oral Saline, Injectables (LVP & SVP), Ophthalmic.

The company's manufacturing facility is located 45 miles from Dhaka in Gazipur, where they produce various dosage form like Film Coated Tablet, Enteric Coated Tablet, Dispersible Tablet, Immediate Release Tablet, Modified Release Tablet, Sustain Release Tablet, Chewable Tablet, Immediate Release Capsule, Modified Release Capsule, Enteric Coated Capsule, Liquid in Hard gelatin Capsule, Lotion, ORS, Syrup, Suspension, Oral Gel, Antiseptic Mouthwash, Antiseptic Solution, Powder for Suspension, Cream, Ointment (Water base & Oil base).

Now the company has extended their manufacturing facility is located 48 miles from Dhaka in Gazipur with the state-of-the-art factory (Unit 2) which is build in compliance with cGMP standards, where they produce Ophthalmic & Injectable drugs such as Solution, Suspension & Ointment, Nasal Preparation, Large Volume Parenteral (LVP), Small Volume Parenteral (SVP), Dry Vial, Pre-filled Syringe Injection in key therapeutic segments. This is one and only dedicated steroid & Non-steroid pharmaceuticals facilities in Bangladesh.[1]

The state-of-art factory is having the most modern ophthalmic & parenteral production facilities, dedicated steroidal & non-steroidal facilities with high tech heating ventilation & air conditioning system (HVAC), effluent treatment plant (ETP) & incineration process for waste management. Total site is 29,792 square metres and building foot print is 14,444 square metres.

Exports

The company sells its products in Bangladesh and exporting to both developed and developing countries around the world. They had entered into export fields by registering its products in the following countries: Asia: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Maldives, Philippines Africa: Kenya,[2] Somalia, Mauritius, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Libya Central & South America: Belize, Guatemala

GPL is also aiming to export to other countries of South East Asia, Middle East,[3] Africa.
