Since 1957 Global Van Lines has been providing residential and commercial customers with a superior customer experience in moving. Our History
Global Van Lines has been proficiently executing domestic, national, and international relocations for both residential and commercial customers for decades. George T. Howard founded our predecessor company in 1933, and the company incorporated in 1948 as Howard Van Lines. Then in 1957, our founders, Ed Schumacher, Bill Moen, Max Olsan, and Dan Heydlauff acquired Howard Van Lines and renamed the business Global Van Lines.
Global Van Lines continued to expand its business. As a result, Wayne Goettsche, Chairman of the Board of WKG Corporation, purchased Global Van Lines and Global International in 1981. Several years later, WKG sold several divisions to Contrans Corporation based in Hamilton, Ontario; however, WKG retained Global International. In 1998, agents of Global Van Lines acquired the necessary stock to assume ownership, and soon thereafter, Allied Worldwide purchased Global Van Lines in 2000.
Superior Customer Service
One of the projects Global Van Lines is most proud of occurred in the 1960s when NASA selected us as their designated moving company to transport highly sensitive equipment. We are also proud of our JD Powers ranking as the best long-distance moving company with a score of 774 and particularly high scores in loading service, packing service, and optional coverage in 2007. We continue to advance within the relocation industry with an unparalleled international network of service providers.

This dedicated go-to resource is available to assist with planning customized relocations to fit any individual need and budget. Your Moving Concierge elevates the customer’s priorities above all others and can make recommendations on streamlining a move, saving on expenses, and any other issue that may arise in relation to the relocation. This innovative service is provided as a complimentary option to each and every customer.
Our Moving Concierges have on average over 15 years of industry experience, and their sole focus is helping the customer move. Not only do they have the experience, they also have access to a vast network of service providers. Global Van Lines recognizes that one-size does not fit everyone’s personal situation, needs, or desires. Our Moving Concierges are motivated to arrange and orchestrate the best providers for each individual circumstance. No longer does a customer have to search for a moving company or group of companies with various resources to accomplish a relocation. One call to a dedicated Moving Concierge will connect a client to the resources necessary to perform any type of move.
Global Van Lines is the only company that offers an advocate to the customer, one single resource to help ensure that a move goes smoothly, within budget, and that unforeseen or unexpected events are addressed as they occur.
In 2000 SIRVA moved Global Van Lines headquarters to Fort Wayne, Indiana.[1]
