Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (English: The bride of Humpty Sharma, abbreviated as HSKD) is a 2014 Hindi romantic comedy film[1] written and directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar.[4][5] It features Varun Dhawan as Humpty Sharma and Alia Bhatt as Kavya Pratap Singh in the lead roles.[6][7] HSKD was released on 11 July 2014 and became a box office success.
Plot
The story revolves around the exciting love story of Kavya Pratap Singh and Rakesh Sharma aka Humpty, who meet in Delhi when Kavya comes shopping for her wedding lehenga. After helping her friend getting her money back from a blackmailer. At her best friend wedding they fall in love and made love at night. Kavya returns to Ambala for her wedding.
When Humpty goes after her with his friends Shonty and Poplu, he finds out about her seemingly perfect NRI fiancé, Angad. After many attempts to prove Kavya's dad wrong and Angad asks Kavya for date. On the date some goons tease Kavya and Humpty shows and starts beating them up. Kavya's father shows up and tells him to go away and never come back again.
After Humpty fails the challenge Angad and Kavya are to be wed. After explaining to her father that a local groom will be the best for her, Kavyas father gets Humpty and her married.

Development
In August 2013, Dharma Productions confirmed that Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt would be portraying the main leads. This was the second time the pair will be seen together in a movie after Student of the Year. And it was also their second time working with the producer Karan Johar, who directed Student of the Year.[8] Karan Johar in a press conference said that the movie is a tribute to the cult romantic classic Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
Filming took place in Mumbai with a second schedule completed on 12 March in Punjab.[9][10] Filming took place in Vaseela in March 2014 with more planned for Ambala and Chandigarh.[11] The filming was completed in Ambala, Chandigarh, Khan Market and Delhi University,[12] at a budget of ₹17.5 crore (US$2.6 million).[2]
The song "Saturday Saturday" was filmed in Mumbai Film City recreating the Colosseum for a futuristic avatar song choreographed by Ahmed Khan.[13]

The film's soundtrack is composed by Sachin-Jigar and Sharib-Toshi with lyrics penned by Kumaar, Irshad Kamil and movie director Shashank Khaitan.[1]
The song "Saturday Saturday" was the first single track released, which was originally composed by The Titans, Badshah and recreated by Sharib-Toshi. The song "Samjhawan" was originally taken from 2010 Punjabi film Virsa music done by Jawad Ahmed and sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Farah Anwar. The second single track "Mein Tenu Samjhawan Ki" is sung by actress Alia Bhatt while lyrics have been given by lyricist Kumaar. DJ Chetas composed The Humpty Mashup also known as Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Mashup.

Sequel
In May 2016, it was announced that Khaitan will write and direct another romantic comedy under the Dharma Productions banner with Dhawan and Bhatt playing the lead roles. Although the two films will have different plots and characters, the film is considered the second installment in a franchise that began with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. The second installment, titled Badrinath Ki Dulhania, is currently set to release in March 2017.[14]
