ibis Budget Hotels, (formerly Etap Hotel and Formule 1),[1][2] is an international chain of basic-service budget hotels owned by the AccorHotels Group. There are several branches in major cities and close to transport hubs like the Eurotunnel terminal in Coquelles. The chain competes with chains like Holiday Inn Express and Travelodge in Europe and the UK.

Rooms

The rooms are simply furnished and in most cases the walls are whitewashed. Rooms typically contain amenities such as a small desk, television (sometimes with cable/international channels, depending on the location), a double bed or a double with a bunk bed, a shower, a basin and a toilet. Within the UK, the former Etap hotels do not include tea/coffee making facilities in the room, although there is usually a coin-operated hot drinks machine in the foyer. In some locations the rooms and entrance have coded locks. Some rooms may also have Wi-Fi. A towel and a bar of soap come as standard, with other toiletries for purchase at the reception. Items such as ironing boards and irons are normally available for hire.

Other amenities

All Ibis Budget hotels have a breakfast area, a reception (manned 24 hours a day in the UK & Switzerland, however elsewhere this varies) and, at some locations, an automatic reception for out of hours check-ins.

Hotel exterior designs

There are two distinct exterior designs of ibis budget hotels. The first one is found in hotels that were built after 2000 or form part of Accor estates such as those at Paris CDG Airport and in the Cité Europe Shopping complex, near the Eurotunnel terminal; these are known in France as Zone Hotelier (Hotel Zones). The older style is found in individual properties and those built before 2000.
