- June 1974 Great Plains tornado outbreak: An outbreak of 36 tornadoes, at least 19 of them significant or intense, becomes the second-deadliest June tornado event in Oklahoma history, with 16 deaths reported in the state.[6]
- Jon Pertwee vacates the role of Doctor Who in the final episode of "Planet of the Spiders", citing the death of his close acting friend Roger Delgado (who played 'The Master') the previous year as the reason. Pertwee is replaced by Tom Baker.

- Pravda reports that Yekaterina Furtseva, the most influential woman in Soviet politics, has failed to be re-elected to the Supreme Soviet, shortly after being disciplined by the Party for extravagance and fined 40,000 rubles.[10] Furtseva died four months later.
