KTWO is an American radio station licensed to Casper, Wyoming operating on 1030 kHz. KTWO broadcasts a 50,000 watt signal from two towers nighttime (directional), one tower daytime (non-directional) located east of Casper near Hat Six Road. The station features several talk shows such as Rush Limbaugh and Coast to Coast AM.[1][2]
KTWO is also very well known for its news department. It features short news broadcasts throughout the day, as well as a half-hour nightly news program at 5pm entitled "Wyoming Tonight." In addition the station also offers news broadcasts from FOX Radio News. Weather forecasts for the station are provided by Cheyenne, WY based "Day Weather."
Signal
KTWO can be heard in almost all of Wyoming during the day. During the night, KTWO has been reported much farther distances, such as Southern California,[3] and Flagstaff, Arizona[4] domestically. It has also been received internationally in the Netherlands[5] and Japan.[6]
At night, KTWO uses a directional antenna pattern that pushes most of the station's transmitting power to the west. This is in place to protect clear channel station WBZ in Boston, which is also on 1030. KTWO operated on 1470 kHz until 1976.
History
KTWO was the first AM radio station in Wyoming. It signed on January 2 of 1930, as KDFN. At sign on, the station was on a different frequency, 1470 kHz. In 1967, the station changed frequencies to its current dial position 1030 kHz.[7]
KTWO-TV was previously associated with the radio station.
